Mini-Reunion, Monroeville  5/22/2010  Saturday

Hi, classmates,

Here a 3 photos that Ginny sent from our lunch on Saturday. Kitty, Sally, Ginny, DJ and Sandy, Dianne, Kathi, Judy, and I attended. We had such a fun time visiting.

Kathi's husband Jim is now in an extended care facility due to his battle with MS.  Kathi shared that Jim had great fun at all our reunions.  He really enjoyed going to them. Went to one of his own and never went to another one!  Kathi sees him daily.

Kitty moves to Ohio in two weeks and looking forward to relaxing a couple of months at her daughter's home. An added plus is that she will be enjoying grandchildren there.

Sally is ever busy...we are STILL trying to get her online. she had a new Ford Focus. Bought it at the same time Jo Anne Petras Edwards was buying a car.  That dealership did OK on Class of '59 that day!

Ginny does lots with her sister Anne. She is back and forth from her Pgh. home to here Chataqua home.

Dianne's father is in his nineties and is still in his own home in Edgewood Acres. She spends alot of her time caring for him.

DJ and Sandy are settled into their new home.  There is an indoor pool in the complex where they are living and they do alot of swimming.  Plus their kids are close by so they often enjoy their company...and of course enjoy the grandkids too.

Judy was so happy to see everyone. She was staying with her daughter.  Her sister Joan visited for a couple of days. She was able to spend time with her brother who is battling cancer. Plus her son also lives in Pgh. so she was to stay a night or two with him.

And me...well, I am in the process of painting my living room and dining room!  What fun.  Managed to flip a small container of paint upsidedown....fortunately most of it landed on the drop cloth.  Spattered all over the wall, baseboards, and me!  I am still wearing some of it. I am thinking of coordinating my wardrobe to match!

Hope you all have a good day! Enjoy the photos...courtesy of Ginny

Mini-Reunion, May 2012  Saturday

Our trip to the restaurant was not unlike a progressive dinner. Roz, Marge, and I met at an exit off of Rt. 22 and then Margie drove us to the Allegheny Exit of the Turnpike where we met Kathi who then drove us to the restaurant...thank goodness! What a drive that was. I have forgotten how convoluted Pgh. roads can be!!!

Those attending the lunch were: Kathi, Roz Roth Sky, Margie Gillespie Fleming, Sally Griggs, Ginny Morgan Stahlsmith, Sandy Daw Jameson and me. Here's the recent news!

Kathi is keeping very busy as always. She writes for Verona blog which I sent to you earlier this month, she ushers at the Benedum, and visits her husband Jim ( who is in a nursing home) as often as possible. Jim always loved our reunions and we miss seeing him. Kathi's son has moved home to live with her but she says he spends alot of his time in the garage...his man cave! They each "do their own thing" but I know that Kathi is enjoying having him with her.
Ginny is doing great and has just had a good report from her doctor. She is getting ready to head up to Chautauqua where she lives in her recently built home. Her sister Anne, who lives across the street from her condo in Fox Chapel, also has a place across the road in Chautauqua. They do alot of traveling together and are now planning a cruise to the British Isles!

Roz also is a busy lady. Remember the video that I recently sent when she was honored for her service to the community and charities. This time she was using her "bragging rights" by showing a magazine cover and article from Altoona featuring her grandson's (front cover) and daughter Tobi (inside story and article). The article is about baseball and how important it has been to their family. Both boys love and play the game with Roz and Phil in attendance cheering them on. The article was great and photos fantastic!

Margie had a motive for offering to chauffeuring us! She was looking sporty in her beautiful new-to-her Buick! Glenn located the car for her, which belonged to a little old lady who only drove it to and from church. Margie is loving it. It is a sage green, interior a light tan. I felt like I was riding on a cloud. Margie is very active in her church! Also their son, his wife, and children are in St. College. She thoroughly enjoys the grandchildren and occasionally imparts her wisdom to them! (I wonder if hers listen better than mine?) She mentioned that Glenn did an amazing job with the Joe Paterno funeral. He handled all the arrangements and with the huge crowds and media that was no small undertaking. She said he drove the lead car with two bishops and one priest accompanying him. As they drove, huge crowds lined the road. When Glenn opened the car windows, not one sound was heard. One of the bishops said that even the Pope would not have a funeral like Joe's!

Sandy has since moved to a smaller unit since DJ is now in a nursing care center. She has made many friends there and has done some traveling with them. They took a trip to 7 Springs earlier this year and she is also planning a trip to the Bahamas. Sandy is living about 25 miles from where DJ is and sees him as often as possible. Their three children live close by and they are always available when she needs them! We are glad that Sandy is joining our gatherings!
Sally lives right on Fifth Avenue in Oakland. She is in the middle of all the action. She spoke of the filming of Batman, the movie soon to be released that was filmed in Pgh. It was inconvenient trying to navigate in the area but she said it was a lot of fun. Although Sally is retired from her job at Carnegie Museum, she has a full time job with all the associations, clubs, etc. with which she is involved. The woman never stops!!! We hassled her about purchasing a computer...which she has been doing for about 9 years. Ginny threatened never to type and print another Christmas letter for her. Ginny, by the way, passed Sally's most recent to all of us. It is exhausting reading all of it. Needless to say, Sally has no trouble passing the time! Not sure how she finds time to make up excuses for NOT buying a computer!

As for me, I am STILL working in the gardens! It is never-ending. I am now awaiting for a landscaper to rebuild the natural stone wall along our patio. Sure hope he comes soon . Spent the last two days digging up ground cover and ferns that have overtaken the wall. The good news is that I completed the painting of the sunroom and love the color. Scott and I played 9 holes of golf at Champion Lakes yesterday. I actually hit the ball fairly well, in spite of my lousy handicap....which is playing the game! And of course, we are attending lots of grandkid activities. Sunday we go to Kiski where our grandson Kyle attends for an Award Ceremony. On June 4th we go to Girard to see our 17 year-old grandson graduate. He will attend the Penn State Berhend campus in the honors program next fall! He wants to be a chemical engineer. (Didn't get that from my side of the family!) Plus we have grandkids involved in baseball, track and gymnastics. Sure would like a portable easy chair...those bleacher are killers!

Hope everyone is enjoying the spring weather! ENJOY!
Joyce
